This glass

I lift the glass, half-blindly, to my lips
And think of what has happened just this year.
The sounds that make it to my inner ear
Are sounds of joy and sorrow, peaks and dips.
You’ve brought a life I never thought I’d know,
And given up far more than I deserve;
And if sound judgment make you now reserve
The things I snatched before; if these do go,
Then be assured! While tears may wet my eyes,
My gratitude will evermore be yours
For all those physical and mental doors
You opened for me. Beautiful surprise!
Be happy, love. For though these things I’ll miss,
I need but see your smile to give me bliss.
