Limits

I do not need to tell you that I care:
You know that you are often on my mind.
Perhaps it is because we’re so aligned;
I always want to help you, and to share
Your worries and your fears. It’s only fair,
Since you have, in your turn, been always kind
To help me with my own. So when I find
A burden you have kept from public glare,
A deeper woe that festers, hidden there,
To which, for many years, you got resigned;
I realise I’m destined to be blind
To many of the challenges you bear.
Despite the careful watch that I maintain
I cannot ever truly know your pain.
