At first it begins with a gentle aroma
                A hint of sweet, a hint of spice;
The promise of delicate savour to follow:
                This moment cannot but entice.

The appetite whetted, the hunger alive,
                Saliva forming on the lips;
The starter presented, a gentle consommé,
                Politely supped in tiny sips.

The following course is substantial in body;
                So now the feasting proper starts.
Attack it with fervour, with gusto, with relish
                A dish to warm the coldest hearts.

The freshest of fish is delightfully tasty,
                A treat to bring to any tongue.
And, swirling its juices around on the palate,
                One feels as though an angel’s sung.

At last it is time for the main course to enter!
                This is the time for firm red meat.
And shutting ones eyes when a little’s ingested
                Can help enhance the luscious treat.

The meal isn’t over. Dessert is important:
                It’s wrong to simply walk away.
These mouthfuls of sweetmeat will settle digestion;
                A smile will grace the mouth today!
