Hollow
I got up fairly early, once again.
Threw on a dressing gown – something to wear –
Put on my slippers, then went down the stair.
I made a cup of tea; ate something plain;
Sat on the couch, and gazed into the rain.
Time passed; how much, I didn’t really care;
Or rather, I was blankly unaware.
It didn’t matter. I would just remain
Half-comatose, with nothing much to gain.
At moments, I would fantasize you there,
And see your laughing eyes light up the air;
But was this hope, or fear, or simply pain?
I did not – do not – know. I’ll sit and stare,
An empty shell. This is my lot to bear.
